Yesterday saw the first dedicated lure fishing trip of the year with Daniel Hawkins aboard Reel Deal Charters.
It was especially enjoyable for me to not have to get out of bed too early to make the 8am departure time! Also considering that 2 months ago I was using crutches to walk due to my torn calf muscle.
With the added advantage of Dave and Damian collecting me from the shop meaning I could help them out with some last minute purchases. Both of them being major fans of our massive selection of Fiiish products….https://www.highstreettackle.co.uk/soft-lures-3-c.asp?_=&f-_brand=f-Fiiish
The almost spring like day saw us leave on time and heading west full of excitement for the day ahead….with the first mark being about an hour away from us.
As soon as the first drift started there were fish happening straight away which put a smile on several people’s faces….
I may as well confess now that unfortunately it was my day yesterday to be the person that blanked for the day, the whole day! - however considering I worked hard with Dan to get this trip arranged, the results for everybody else were actually very good considering the awful conditions we have seen so far this year and I am pleased for them all.
There were quite a few bass around the 50cm mark with the biggest two being in the low 60s and the high 60s annoyingly caught by the person on my left!
There was also a good number of nicely sized pollock too. We stayed here for most of the day until it was clear that the fish had moved on with the tide. So we did the same and moved to the next location about halfway back to Ilfracombe.
To sum up then, aside from me working very hard to no avail this was an excellent trip - these lure trips will be featuring in the Reel Deal calendar several more times this year and there will be some with a High Street Tackle theme too…so please contact Dan Hawkins for details and obviously keep an eye on the High Street Tackle Facebook page too for details.
